This acquisition strengthens andexpands Abbott's current medical device business, providing furtherdiversification for the long term. AMO participates in threesegments: cataract surgery, refractive surgery, or LASIK laservision correction, and eye care products, such as contact lenssolutions. AMO holds the number-one market position in LASIK, thenumber-two position in cataract surgery and the number-threeposition in eye care products.
